Pilot Requirement – British Airways

Hi Captain,

I hope you are as fit as a fiddle. The main purpose I am writing is to ask you a few questions.

They may sound silly and childish but I am just 15 years old and I am curious about flying. I have bought your book "Life in the Skies". I have no regret and I love your story.

First of all, on pilot's physical appearance - why do pilots have to be tall? I heard that the minimum height be a pilot is 163 cm? I always wanted to be a pilot - unfortunately I am not that tall!

Secondly, if my academic result is not so good and couldn't make to it to the science stream, should I just give up on becoming a pilot?

Thirdly, I don't know if this has been written in your book. This happened about 2 or 3 years ago, I flew to Sabah. It was not my first flight but about 15 minutes before landing, I felt pain in my ear.

Next, can you explain the cost to be a pilot? I heard about this a lot and almost everyone said the same, "The cost to be a pilot is high" Is it true?

Your book is worth buying. I love your writing. I hope you could write some more in the future.

There will be a lot of questions but for now I will end here.

Till then, bye!

Is there a pilot on board?

Hero passenger steps in for ailing pilot

Hi Good Day to you Capt Lim,

I always have this question in mind and I tried to google the answer but I couldn't manage to find it.

I was just wondering, if there is a passenger holding a pilot license such as PPL or even a CPL license, and that passenger boarded a flight to go for a vacation.

Will the airline/immigration knows whether, in that particular flight, there is a pilot on board?

Thank You.

Have you heard of this Flight Training Consulting Agency?

Aviator College Ft Pierce Florida
Hello Capt. Lim,

I am interested in becoming an airline pilot but all the current problems with job opportunities have got me looking for a more secured way to get into the job market rather than getting an ATPL by my own means. I mainly have two questions:

1. Have you ever heard of Aerocadet? Apparently they are "a consulting agency contracted by large flight training facilities, such as Aviator College of Aeronautical Science and Technology, in order to provide consulting to prospective students and process their enrolment paperwork, conduct enrolment interview, organize financial aid, etc.

These services are FREE for the prospective students, as we are remunerated by the flight training centres." in the very words of their Int. Aviation Training Consultant.

They have a program that trains students with 0 flight experience to a FULL ATPL in about 2 years and from a cost of about 50k USD onward in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Do you think this is a legitimate program/company? It seems too good to be true to me. Also there is very little news or press about Aerocadet..

2. What is your professional and personal opinion about the chances of being hired by an airline now if one has just graduated but has a full ATPL? Would it give a large upper hand to said pilot in terms of job eligibility?

Thank you very much for your time sir. I apologize for the long message and have a good day!
