Welcome!

This is the updated website for Just About Flying. Unfortunately, my previous site, which had been around for 20 years, was no longer supported by my hosting provider due its outdated nature. As I lacked the necessary technical skills to upgrade the old platform on my own, I have decided to toy with another program.

However, I must admit that having someone else construct the site for me doesn’t quite capture the same personal touch that I had put into it as a hobbyist.

Nevertheless, I am currently in the process of learning how to develop and upgrade this new site using a simpler site builder, Word Press.

I have also introduced a new category titled “Legal Articles” which will allow me to expand my knowledge in this discipline. It’s important to note that the content in this category is not intended for legal reference but rather for the layman.

As an aviator with 50 years of experience primarily writing about flying, I will now be incorporating some simple legal topics or any other subjects that interest me as a pastime in my blog.

Feel free to explore the site and check out my new postings (comments disabled) which are also shared in LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Quora.

Thank you for your continued support.

Call to the Bar

In my previous website, I regret I could not respond to every email I received in its later stages. I apologize for any unanswered correspondence.

Running a site for 20 years is a significant duration and maintaining the same level of passion throughout can be challenging.

Additionally, due to an overwhelming amount of spam messages, I disabled comments on the blog.

However, you can still leave comments on LinkedIn, Facebook or Quora where the articles are also posted.

For new visitors, I’d like to provide a brief summary of my career path in the aviation industry leading up to being called to the Bar, along with a mini photo gallery.

My interest in law developed during my time with the airlines. Through self-study and part-time classes, I earned my LL.B from the University of London in the United Kingdom in 1992. Subsequently, I obtained my Certificate of Legal Practice from the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualification Board in Kuala Lumpur in 1995.

After completing my education, I served the Royal Malaysian Air Force for approximately 14 years, followed by a tenure of 25 years with Malaysia Airlines and an additional 14 years with AirAsia, totalling 52 years in the aviation industry. During my career, I flew various aircraft, including the Boeing 777, Airbus A320, Airbus A330 and A340.

Upon retiring from active flying at the age of 65, I was gainfully employed as a flight simulator instructor until the unfortunate outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, I was laid off at the age of 74 and decided to complete my chambering, having prepared for it many years earlier.

During my time at AirAsia, I authored two books. The first book, titled “Life in the Skies,” was voted the third most popular book at the Malaysian Book Festival in 2015. The second book, “Sky Tales,” was launched in 2017 by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

Throughout my 43 years of active flying with the airlines, I accumulated a total of approximately 25,500 flying hours before my final retirement on March 2011.

Below, you can find a mini gallery showcasing photos from the early days of my flying career at the Flying School in the United Kingdom in 1967 until the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, which compelled me to complete my chambering and be called to the Malaysian Bar on March 26, 2021.
