I’m happy to share that I’ve brought back my old website, Just About Flying. After more than 20 years online, the previous version could no longer be supported by its hosting provider. Since I didn’t have the technical know-how to update the old platform, I decided to move everything over to WordPress and give it a fresh start.
Of course, it feels a little different now. Back then, building the site myself as a hobby gave it a very personal touch. Having someone else help set it up this time doesn’t quite feel the same—but I’m excited to see where this new platform takes me.
Besides aviation, I’ve also added a new category called “Legal Articles.” These won’t be formal legal references, but simple pieces written for the everyday reader. Think of them as me sharing a little of what I’ve learned along the way.
With over 50 years of experience in aviation, most of my writing will still revolve around flying. But now and then, I’ll also touch on legal topics—or anything else that sparks my interest—as part of this ongoing journey.
Please feel free to browse through the site and check out my latest posts (newer comments are now enabled), which I also share on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
Call to the Bar
In my previous website, I regret I could not respond to every email I received in its later stages. I apologize for any unanswered correspondence.
Running a site for 25 years is a significant duration and maintaining the same level of passion throughout can be challenging.
Initially, due to an overwhelming amount of spam messages, I disabled comments on the blog. However, I have recently enabled the comments for my latest postings.
For new visitors, I’d like to provide a brief summary of my career path in the aviation industry leading up to being called to the Bar, along with a mini photo gallery.
My interest in law developed during my time with the airlines. Through self-study and part-time classes, I earned my LL.B from the University of London in the United Kingdom in 1992. Subsequently, I obtained my Certificate of Legal Practice from the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualification Board in Kuala Lumpur in 1995.
After completing my education, I served the Royal Malaysian Air Force for approximately 14 years, followed by a tenure of 25 years with Malaysia Airlines and an additional 14 years with AirAsia, totalling 52 years in the aviation industry. During my career, I flew various aircraft, including the Boeing 777, Airbus A320, Airbus A330 and A340.
Upon retiring from active flying at the age of 65, I was gainfully employed as a flight simulator instructor until the unfortunate outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, I was laid off at the age of 74 and decided to complete my chambering, having prepared for it many years earlier.
During my time at AirAsia, I authored two books. The first book, titled “Life in the Skies,” was voted the third most popular book at the Malaysian Book Festival in 2015. The second book, “Sky Tales,” was launched in 2017 by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.
Throughout my 43 years of active flying with the airlines, I accumulated a total of approximately 25,500 flying hours before my final retirement on March 2011.
Below, you can find a mini gallery showcasing photos from the early days of my flying career at the Flying School in the United Kingdom in 1967 until the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, which compelled me to complete my chambering and be called to the Malaysian Bar on March 26, 2021.
