Pilot Career - Height
Monday, 26 November 2007 08:03

Hi,

I will like to find out if any person out there who is 1.6m tall and had passed off as SIA pilot? I be going for my 1st interview this month soon...

Thanks..

Orion

Hi Orion,

I used to work at Changi Airport and saw these pilots who are not that tall. I mean I'm already considered short at 1.65m and some of then are even shorter than me or around my height. I suppose if you look at the height requirements of different airlines, they will give different heights from 1.60m to 1.65m.

The thing about this height criteria is to, more or less, help them determine if potential cadets are able to reach the rudders with feet and still be able to look over the flight control panel and observe what is outside. I used to be from SYFC and I can reach the rudders and look at my surroundings comfortably. I have been in a B777 simulator and do not feel much of a difference.

So really, do go and try unless you are way off the height requirements and would definitely not made the cut. Just go and try, they would probably take you in but no guarantees about that.

only 162cm
hi sir,i am only a62cm....can i be a pilot and where can i apply to be a cadet pilot with scholarship

SIA still flexible
Hi Jay, glad to know SIA's still flexible enough and not so rigid to filter candidates with height less than 1.65m. I feel the best way for the interviewing process is to let the interviewee try out the simulator to determine if height is a problem for him/her. If not, why not consider that candidate? It would be such a pity if a potential pilot were to be excluded because of a few cm.
