Hi Capt Lim,

I have a few questions for you. I want to know, what level of education is required to be an airline pilot. I am 16 years old in the 10th grade. I really want to work for China Airlines or Singapore Airlines one day because, as a pilot, one gets to travel a lot.

I don't know what kind of education is required for this job. Do you have to be smart like those people who want to become a doctor or a genius to be a pilot? Can you please let me know.

If you look at the academic requirement of most airlines pilots advertisements, they are nothing similar to those that are sought for in a medical course. You must be reasonably good in a Maths or a Science subject (usually Physics) at Advanced Level or its equivalent, but it would be an advantage if you have a Degree at the College or University. You don't have to be a genius but you must have common sense and be able to pass the pilot selection process. For more details, please check out the specific details at their web sites.

Hey guys and hopefully some ladies as well. I always had the dream of becoming a Captain on a legacy carrier(ex. American Airlines, United, Singapore Airlines)etc. However being a third year med student (Doctor school) I must have to admit I often times still desire a career in aviation. I look back saying I could have been done with school by now, And I'd be doing something that I love. My father is a commercial pilot for JetBlue and I've grown up around Civil aviation my whole life. I am working on my private pilots license (VERY slowly) well my point here,Don't let anyone tell you that you're incapable or not intelligent enough,also from this point on forward never second-guess yourself. I have failed classes in Middle and High school.When I matured I cracked down. My advice to everyone out there is shoot for your dreams If I can become a Neurosurgeon you can become a Pilot. Just have yourself a nice backup plan.Try to find something else that interests you as well. In the meantime stay focused and remember two things you are the future, and not all doctors are genius!
