Pilot Career - Flying Schools

Air Pacific Flight Training

Dear Sir,

I am 18 this year. This is the first time I come across this website after buying your book "Life in the Skies”. Even though I haven't finished reading your book, I have a few questions to ask and seek your opinion.

I am a girl and yes I really want to become a pilot. This is not just because I enjoy flying (I'm sure everybody loves flying!) But I am kinda more into enjoying seeing the skies and clouds (this may sound stupid) because it feels like looking at different stories around the world and I enjoy it. Also, I like to study different type of airplanes especially the Airbus A380.

Anyway back to my point, currently, I am doing A-Levels and will be completing it soon. I am looking for a flying school and I am not sure whether I should choose a flying school where I can graduate and become a qualified pilot after 18 months or should I go to a University which will take about 3 years.

Secondly, I don't know whether I should take my pilot course here in Malaysia or overseas. The course oversea might be more expensive than training locally but my parents tell me that oversea instructors are more experienced. If I really want to study overseas, do you have any suggestions of any particular flying schools?

So far I manage to get information about Massey University.

I hope to hear your opinion soon.

Thank you Sir.

Florence

Hi Florence,

If you want to be a pilot in Malaysia, then attend a flying school in Malaysia or else you will face additional issues of converting your foreign licence to a local one.

Even if you complete a flying course privately in 18 months locally, there is no guarantee of a flying job in Malaysia at the moment. There are still quite a number of jobless flying graduates around.

The safest bet for you is go to the University, take up a professional degree course as a backup, then apply again when local airlines open their doors for pilot recruitment in the future.

As you have read in many similar questions in the past, I would only recommend 3 flying schools in Malaysia:-

1. Air Pacific Flight Training

2. HM Aerospace in Langkawi

3. Malaysia Flying Academy

Which one to choose is up to you to find out, especially on their cost, equipment, convenience, management, etc.

For overseas flying schools, please go here in my website. I do not have the latest update on which is the best. Please browse through some past answers to evaluate the best one.
