Cathay Pacific Airways

Hello Captain,

Hope you and family are doing great. The first time I visited your website, I was quite fascinated with the amount of information available and the best things are your answers. Since then, I have finished my CPL training and if I had some questions on anything to do with aviation I would search it here... Thank you very much Sir.

My question - my friend was telling me that in Cathay, the progression of a pilot is pretty slow and the Second Officer recruitment has started. If you get selected, the hours that you fly in the beginning of your CX life - you cannot log them. I wanted to ask you whether that's true.

Also, will it take me a long time to jump to the First Officer or Captain’s position in Cathay?

Waiting for your early and positive response

(Please help me Sir; I have been job hunting for 14+ months now)

Regards,

Samir

Hi Samir,

What your friend told you about the progression of the Second Officer in Cathay Pacific Airways is mostly true. At this time when the market is flooded with pilot graduates who are jobless, I wouldn't grumble about the slow promotional aspects of the job.

I have mentioned this before. Grab the opportunity now if you can get through their very stringent selection process!

I wish you all the best.

Hello Captain,
Hope you are doing well. The first time when I had my trail introductory flight lesson, a friend of mine who is a pilot in Cathay Pacific now, provided me with plenty of information about the qualification required by Cathay. I have been told that Cathay asks for any one non-aviation degree along with flying hours. I have been interacting with many flight instructors and flight consultants as well and they told me that I do not need any non-aviation degree to work with Cathay Pacific. I understand that every airline has its own requirements and I am aware of the qualification and requirements of Cathay Pacific. I am starting my pilot training soon after finishing school. At this stage I am unsure of it so, I just want to confirm that do I need a non-aviation degree to start my career with Cathay Pacific?
Waiting for your reply.
Thank you for your time Captain

Surabhi,

Why don't you confirm it from the Cathay website. All requiremnts have been posted there in a lucid manner.

Looking for a second Officers vacancy with no jet or type rating
Hi Captain Lim
I hope this email finds you well.
I have looked at the second officer post on Cathy Pacific and thought it was OK but the feed backs of the people are not very encouraging.
first: the pay is very low comparing the cost of living;renting an apartment as Cathy doesn't provide living expenses.
Second:You have no rights and Cathy regulations change very dramatically, so it is not necessary to get what you are offered in Cathy even if it is mentioned in the interview.
Third: it takes 3-4 years to be upgraded to First Officer and 7-9 years to Captain.
Fourth: Hong Kong is so expensive you can't afford to do anything nor go out or even buy basic things.
Kindly advice on this as i am a Military Helicopter Pilot with over 2300 Grand Total with a CPL/Instrument rating of Casa 295, 20 years of Aviation experience. My best bet is to look for a second Officer job but was thinking, is Cathy Pacific Second Officer program a good choice or not?
Thanks Captain and best regards,

Mismar
