Pilot Career - Becoming a Pilot
Sunday, 10 June 2007 01:28

Hi Captain Lim!

Thank you for you very much for your understanding. The following may get a bit too long, but I sincerely hope you can take some time to go through it. I would like to seek your opinion and advices to become a pilot.

Firstly, my name is Michael, and I am a 21-year-old Singaporean. Like many of the people who frequent your website, I am in love with aviation too! I remember once, when I was 6 or 7, standing outside my house, I saw a plane flying above my head! That was the first time I got so excited about flying.

Then when I was 14, I took a plane from Singapore to Malaysia. It was there and then, I decided that I was going to learn flying! So, when I was 17, I eagerly applied to join the Singapore Youth Flying Club. However, due to my many commitments then, my parents, teacher and principal forced me to quit the club as my academic achievement saw a steady deterioration. Hence, I heed their advice, and quit the club RELUCTANTLY.

Michael.

Hi Michael,

The reason why I did not reply your earlier queries (received twice) was because I have too many similar emails. I don*t have the time right now to reply to every one, especially if they are repeated ones. I am trying to write a book (taking a long time too!) for the aspiring pilot and also to consolidate the many Pilot Career FAQ into this single booklet.

Meanwhile, please participate, sift and trawl through the
Forums and past FAQ for advices and inspiration on the route to achieving your dream. Yes, I know it is tedious, but nothing in life comes in easy without hard work!

Anyway, if you have the required qualifications and the aptitude, you need not have to acquire a PPL from the Singapore Youth Flying Club to join SIA ? provided you can get past the selection process. Many have gone through that way and I am sure you can too!

I wish you all the best! :-)
