I am a Norwegian citizen aged 28 and am currently looking at the Cathay Pacific Cadet program. I did hear they now accepts all nationalities into their program but still wonders if some nationalities are more preferable than others?! I am 28 years old and hold a Bachelor Degree from the Police University College in Norway.
Will this degree be accepted by the airline as the "degree" they require?? It has nothing to do with science subjects or similar but is still a degree.
If this is accepted as one of their requirements itself, will it give me some advantage of promotion from Second Officer to First Officer earlier than usual? Do you also know how it is to work as a Second Officer for such an airline like Cathay? It is not likely for me to finance a CPL education from scratch and the Cathay programme looks very attractive to me since it is fully funded by the airline as far as I know.
I do believe the selection process is very rigorous and that only a few individuals pass into each course. There is not much information about the program on the web itself, if you do know a link or other webpages that can provide such information it would be appreciated.
To be considered for a flying career as Cadet Pilot with the airline, you must:
• Have an excellent command of written and spoken English
• Be physically fit and qualify for a Class I Medical
• Meet flight deck reach requirements which is subject to a functional reach test
• Have completed secondary school and have good passes in mathematics and science, or have a degree or diploma, or have passes in all ATPL subjects
• Share our passion for aviation
As far as academic qualification is concerned, you only need to have completed secondary school and have good passes in mathematics and science, or have a degree or diploma. So as long as you satisfied the requirements stated, you would qualify.
I believe a bachelor degree with the Police University College would suffice provided you can show that you have good passes in mathematics and science done at your secondary school. If not, it may be a problem.
You can submit you application here, and the airline may consider your application. If your application is accepted, this is only the first hurdle. There are many tough hurdles to cross!
In my opinion, Cathay Pacific would take in any nationalities if they make the cut. Getting promoted is based on your performance as a pilot regardless of your degree as the airline has their own assessment guidelines. Maybe a degree from the Police College may carry some weight if it can enhance your character.

The latest rumor in the grape wine say that the 61 week Cadet Pilot Program is now only for holders of a Hong Kong ID card, it was open for all nationalities before, but unfortunately now it's closed. The Advanced entry courses and the Transition Training courses are still open for all nationalities. There are cadets from Sweden, Denmark and Norway on the courses. So Cathay definitively takes on Scandinavian applicants.

I see. I still have to apply and wait for an answer anyway. Once I submit the application I probably will know for sure. I appreciate any feedback given to this post.
