Airline Pilot Training with CTC Wings

Hi Captain Lim,

I have posted on your blog earlier but did not get a response. I know about the busy schedule that pilot has but this time I really need your help

I am studying Aerospace Engineering in a reputed University in the UK. But even before I started doing my degree, I knew that my final career goal was to become a pilot. Now that I have come towards the end of my degree, it’s time for me to make some decision.

I am a Bangladeshi national. There is no good facility for pilot training in my country. So I have been waiting to apply to Cathay Pacific programme after finishing my degree but unfortunately, they do not take any ab-initio iCP anymore. Also, having lived in Dubai for most of my life, I would love the opportunity to work there.

Etihad has concluded its international cadet pilot programme and I do not see any chances of them resuming it any time soon. So the only options left for me is to look at self-funded training. Initially, I have been looking at the cadet pilots in Europe but I cannot qualify for them as I do not have unrestricted right to live and work in UK.

Also, even if I do my training with them, I won’t be able to work in UK/Europe because of the same reason. Now I have started looking at training in Australia as it cheaper there.

Apparently, even in Australia, if you want to work for their airlines, you need to have Australian/NZ PR. My friends living in Australia told me its relatively easy to get a PR in Australia.

I have identified two training organisations in Australia and NZ. I am looking at CPL with instrument rating course in Flight training Adelaide and IPP in CTC Wings New Zealand. The FTA course is about $60 k and the CTC Wings IPP is about $130K but in IPP, I will end up with fATPL.

I have attached the links to both training programme if you want to have a look at:

a. Flight Training Adelaide
b. CTC Wings

Now, I am really confused as to which course to go to and which one will be better in placing me on the right hand side of an airliner.

Please advise me on the best training root that I can take. Any kind of advice will be really appreciated.

Thank you

Imran

Hi Imran,

Sorry to you and many others who wrote in as I am on a course and not able to reply unless it is something special.

As regards to your question, if you are looking to fly with an airline on the right hand seat, you should be looking at CTC Wings in New Zealand that ends up with a frozen ATPL. I believe the cheaper FTA  ATPL course is meant for helicopter pilots.

All the best to your future flying career.

Sorry Captain,
I posted the wrong link for the Flight training adeliade course. Its actually CPL/ IR, not helicopter training.

Thank you very much for your reply.
